Music from Austin City Limits (city hall, construction, live in)

I watch "Austin City Limits" (music show) on TV every Saturday night and enjoy the music very much. My question is: it looks as though it is filmed outside: Is it? Are the bands from anywhere USA or just from Texas? Anyone know? I love the show..............Keep it up..............I live in Minnesota but someday hope to visit Texas, possibly Austin.

It is filmed inside, and they take all sorts of artists, or have in the past. It is quite possible to get tickets...last I check they were free, but they do not announce when they will start distributing them, and they do not 'sell' them online or on the phone, you have to go pick them up. Or at least, that is the way it used to be. Had to stay glued to the radio.

Trainwreck is correct. ACL on KLRU is filmed at the UT Journalism Building. I've obtained tickets twice and it is a very cool venue - packed but fun.

I've been watching ACL for over 20 years. I remembered when it was all country music. They have diversified greatly and I've enjoyed it more.

And it's just not Austin artists. Sheryl Crow, the Dixie Chicks and Lisa Fiest (from Canada) have been filmed.

I was fortunate to attend the taping just this past Monday--Roky Erickson, a true Austin legend.

Honestly, it was one of the best concerts I have ever attended, period.

But it's interesting to note how totally civilized it all is.... You wait in an orderly line to pick up your tickets, you go into the building and are ushered into an elevator, and then you go up to the floor where the show is taped...and are given free beer. Two hands, two beers....

The sound in the room was fantastic, and it was amazing to be so damned close to Roky, just behind the chalk line on the main floor. Special guest: Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top!

The show will be broadcast in January 2008, I have been told.

But as to outdoor tapings.... ACL is building a new facility across the street from City Hall, but it won't be ready until 2010. It'll have a larger space inside, I've heard, and it will also have an outdoor seating area where people can relax, enjoy the weather, and see and hear what's going on inside during the taping.

...that I'm really happy to see that ACL has added construction cranes to their painted backdrop. That's definitely a major feature of the Austin skyline these days....

Very "authentic" for the television audience.
