I am looking to make a purchase at Ashley furniture or rooms to go this weekend in south Austin. My question is is it possible to haggle the price of furniture at these stores? Has anyone had any success with this?

Maybe I'm looking for maybe a small drop in the price plus free shipping does this sound reasonable? My purchase will be around 1200 bucks.

Thanks

Yes -- we did it, although I don't remember now what the actual negotiated deal was, but I did succeed in getting them to negotiate. It was about 4 years ago.

You can sometimes get 10% off for paying cash.

Of course - you can frequently get 20% just for asking. I mean, I wouldn't try that at IKEA. But for a non-chain or even a high-end chain negotiation is actually expected.

Yes, in my experience you can negotiate on the price. You are mostly negotiating down the salesperson's commission, but if you can make it a quick and easy deal for them they would probably still be happy.

You could ask for a discount on the floor model, and if they say "we can't sell it..." then you can say, "well, I would buy it for that price if I could..."

Line I use is "Do you have any idea when this might go on sale?"

You could mention you work with a designer(if they offer ASID discounts); but would rather deal directly with the store on a cash purchase.
