I am moving to Austin, arrival date next Friday. (Thanks to everyone that has posted to help me...this forum has been invaluable!) I am traveling 1,000 miles non-stop with four cats. two dogs and a fish. Accomodations at my daughter's house are not available because of guests (and my pets), so I can stay in my apt with the animals and a sleeping bag, or all of us can go to a hotel. Problem is, there are chains that allow pets, but only one pet, with a $100 or so surcharge. I don't want to cause any heart attacks when they see me bring in six, nor do I want to pay a surcharge for six pets. Any ideas of where I can stay, or should I just woman up and sleep on the floor of my apt. - I won't leave my animals there alone. thanks.

Yikes! That's a handful!?! I think I'd camp out in the apartment if I were you. Or maybe find a doggie daycare/kennel to board them.

Camp out in your apt. You'll feel better knowing all the pets are right there and it won't cost you an arm and a leg
Besides..pet deposits for fish are astronomical here in Austin hotels (hehe) ![]() |

Hi & welcome to Austin! I'd camp in the apt. with that many pets after such a long journey. They'll be stressed and need your company in the strange new place. After you settle in, I'd recommend using MudPuppies to board your dogs when you travel - they're fabulous. No little cages. My dog has been going there regularly for the last two years and is always happy to arrive.

For less than the cost of one night's stay in a hotel you can buy an inflatable air mattress at Target. Perfectly comfortable, and you're in your own apartment so you don't have to worry about nosy maids or managers. That's the way to go.
