If you start the school year in August in AISD and then move in October, can you finish the year out at your current school? What is the policy? The new school would be only a few miles away but can your child finish out the year at the current school and then transfer the following year?

Call them and ask! I think that proof of address is only needed at enrollment, so not sure how/when a move would come to their attention.

Default Did you get an answer?

Did you ever find the answer to this question? I feel like I've searched everywhere and can't find any information about it.

Why wouldn't you just call the AISD office and ask after your search everywhere didn't produce an answer?

Nevermind, I just called. They said yes, the student can finish out the year at the current school but if he or she wants to stay at that school next year, a transfer must be completed the January before the August start of the next school year.

I was told that they can finish the semester. If they want to continue, you would have to pay tuition. So, wouldn't it be best just not to tell anyone that you moved?

I suppose you could try to cheat the system and see what happens. What would happen if they caught you mid-semester? Would they make the student de-enroll immediately, or allow the parent to claim ignorance? Also, you'd have to consider what you're teaching the student. It's OK to not follow rules if it benefits them.

I'm not saying I wouldn't consider the same thing, and I'd try to keep my kids in school until the end of the year. Depending on tuition fees, I'd even consider keeping quiet and hope they can ride out the school year without getting caught. However, if there was a chance my kids got suspended I'd pay the tuition. You have to do a risk analysis and make a choice yourself. A lot of choices are qualitative and can't be made by others.

That would only be if you left the district entirely not just the area zoned for a particular school.
