If one person has a question I'm sure others do as well.

Back closer to the point - if folks are interested, Austin has a very lively atheist group (The Atheist Community of Austin) which meets weekly. They also produce a cable access program, and have all sorts of social activities as well. I knew many of them first-hand from my prior residency, and look forward to getting involved with them again.

Back to the point...

In various residencies in Austin at different times, both suburban and urban, I never had anyone ask me about my religion.

I did, however, have several people tell me about their religions, unasked.

Heck, sometimes they even bicycled right to my front door to tell me about their religion!

All I had to do is tell them I'm a gay atheist and they hopped right back on their Huffys and rode off into the sunset.

I don't care about your religious affiliation or your hunting status, but if you invite me over for brisket and you pull said brisket from an oven or crock pot, then there will be an issue. And please learned to say "pecan" the correct way.

I ran into that on my last visit down there in December.

I was corrected on my pronunciation of "pecan" by an elderly man (isn't it always?) who said "You must learn to properly pronounce the name of the state nut."

So, I turned and looked at him, and said very slowly, "R-i-c-k P-e-r-r-y".

(thankfully, he fell off his high horse and laughed along with everyone else.)
