Can anyone give me the names of some good apartments near Hyde Park?
My roommate and I have lived here since July and we love it, however we currently live in N. Austin and want to move closer to downtown. We have another friend coming down (possibly) so we may need a 3 bedroom. He heard that Hyde Park was a nice area so I wondered if anyone out there could suggest some places.
Also we were wondering about the areas between Lamar and Guadalupe streets, anywhere between 45th and 18th street. Are there any places worth looking at around there?
I still work in North Austin, but I won't mind a 30-40 minute commute...too much.
We don't need a big place, currently we have 1200 square feet and it is too big.
We are looking for,
Moderate utilities
2-3 bedrooms
Fairly quiet during the week...we get a little wild ourselves on the weekends
Close to shopping, bars, activities etc
Not college housing...unless grad students
safe area
nice apartments, I don't want to live in a run down place
around single girls....everyone up here seems to be married. (this is the least important lol)
things like pools and clubhouses are nice but not required
Looking to spend 500 to 750 a person
Any suggestions of places to check out would be awesome, even if you could suggest another area that would rock.
Please help us!!!
Patrick

If you are out of college, I'd suggest checking out Clarksville over Hyde Park. Also, for both areas, your best bet is looking on Craig's List since the rentals are mostly by small landlords and not large complexes like up north.

Yeah we are both out of college, I just graduated with my MBA in May, my roommate has been out for a few years.
I have heard of Clarksville but I do not know where it is at, could you tell me please? Also do you know of any places in Clarksville that you would recommend?
Thanks for all of your help.

Clarksville is west of lamar between enfield or so and 6th... basically, if you know where the Tavern or Nokonah lofts are, it's up the hill to the west of that. The problem is, there is not so much to rent there, kind of like Tarrytown (W of Clarksville). You have condos, small houses and duplexes rented out by individual owners, and small apartment complexes. Like Tarrytown, a lot that you would find in your price range would be small and somewhat run down.
You might go a little farther west and north and check out the Far West / NW Hills area. It's a very nice area with plenty of different types of places for rent (duplexes, condos, apartments)... all within the price range you specified. It's not as close as Hyde Park, but downtown is a 10 min drive, cheaper taxi ride, or (best option) take the bus. Lots of older grad students (it's on the UT shuttle) & single people just out of college wanting to stay close-in. Grocery stores, restuarants, bank and post office all within walking distance.
Of course, SoCo would also be nice (the single girls truck themselves in nightly), but it sounds like you may have work or other reasons for staying north of the river.
