Does anyone know what Austin electricians charge to change existing light fixtures? And before you say do it yourself, just be aware that we are not handy!

I'm not sure about existing light fixtures, but we received a few quotes from handymen services that wanted to charge $225ish to install one ceiling fan. That price motivated my husband to install it himself (which was quite simple once he actually did it).

It will be an hourly rate, and probably a minimum of 1 hour. If you have multiple fixtures, you can probably have them do 2 or 3 and hour. I am guessing $100 an hour or so? not sure, might also be a basic service charge + hourly.

If you are looking for a certified electrician, their hourly rate might be $60-75/hour. But it really should not take more than 30 minutes to change a light fixture. So, a good ballpark rate can be $20-30 to change one light fixture (unless it is one of those massive chandelier lights!). If it is a fan, it is more involved work as they need to balance it and will probably take 1 hour or slightly more. The quotes we have got so far for changing lights has been $20-25/light and $50-$70 per fan.

My electrician charges $60/hr for fixtures. He installed 6 fixtures for $120. A fan is usually $100 flat rate. I highly recommend my electrician.

Around $80-$100 (YMMV) an hour with a one hour minimum. Done expect them to just do half an hour service call, drive time and such cost money too, which is why most have a one hour minimum.

If you have several fixtures or ceiling fans it works out much better for you.

Handymen are not licensed to do electric work but you can find them, but it is illegal for a reason.

You don't need to be handy. All you have to remember is "righty tighty, lefty loosey", don't stand on the top step of a ladder, and remember to turn off the circuit breaker before.
