Hi all,

I'm currently an Austin resident who is thinking about moving to Cedar Park. I hold Deer Creek in high regard, from online reviews and friends who have kids attending the school. I'm not so certain about the rest of Cedar Park elementary schools (Naumann, Faubion, etc). This could just be my own ignorance, but what do people think of the other Cedar Park elementary schools? The more I can expand my house search to other good elementary schools (other than Deer Creek) the more options I have. With that said, I don't want to move into an area that feeds into a mediocre, let alone bad, elementary school.

Any advice?

Thanks!

We looked extensively in Cedar Park and nearby areas just a few months ago and we considered most of the elemenatry schools good to excellent. According to Greatschools.org, there are 10 elementary schools in Cedar Park and 8 of them are rated 7 - 9 (3 @9, 2 @ 8 and 3 @ 7). Not just that but the parents reviews for a lot of the schools are positive. So even if you consider Deer Creek a great school at 9, there are 2 other 9 rated elementary schools in Cedar Park

Not sure if you are set on Cedar Park specifically, but our kids go to Parkside Elementary, which is in Leander ISD but has a Georgetown address -- we're in a weird little pocket where Cedar Park/Leander/Round Rock/Georgetown meet. Parkside is rated a 9 and has been fabulous, especially for my special needs child.

You really can't go wrong with most of the LISD schools.

My kids go to Reagan and we like it quite a bit. It's overcrowded right now, but with next year's zoning changes, it should go down by about 150 kids. The quest teacher is great, and that program is very good. There will be a school garden starting up soon (I'm involved with that). We have a large Math Pentathlon program. The principal is very involved and can be very silly with the kids.
I would also look at Rutledge.

Default Thoughts on Westside and Winkley?

Any opinions on Westside Elementary? I have found some homes that feed into it, and so I looked into it. I saw it mentioned as a "bilingual" school, and I'm not sure what that means. My kids lag their peers in speech development even with English, so bilingual might be a plus for some but a minus for us. Thoughts welcome.

We also found a home we like in Winkley. I spoke to someone in the neighborhood who said they like it very much. Of course on Greatschools there are a few very negative reviews, claiming that teachers are always "yelling" at the kids. I assume that's just one or two angry parents and not a pervasive problem....?

I don't know anything about those schools, but be sure you're referring to the new school boundary map for next year: http://www.leanderisd.org/users/0001...ound201415.pdf I noticed that a portion of Winkley will be transferred to Knowles, for instance.
