My child is graduating from elementary school this year. He has always stayed in school with the YMCA After School program offered as both I and his dad work downtown. What do people do with their kids in middle school? I do not want my 11 year old to ride home, use a key and stay in the house alone for 2 hours.

I think most of them ride home, use a key and stay in the house alone for two hours. Maybe have a neighbor or friend's parent agree to be available if he needs anything? It's a good quiet time to get homework done before dinner.

Ask the Y! They don't continue the program for older kids?

I did and no they do not. Does anyone know what type of programs are available in school after school? 11 seems awfully young to be home alone to me.

Mine walks to a friends house and her friends mom takes care of her, but she watches kids from her home. My daughter's middle school y does watch afterschoolers though.

Some schools have community centers near by. For instance Cedar Valley MS (RRISD) has Brushy Creek Community Center right down the street and lots of kids walk over after school.
I would also contact the school administration and see if the are aware of child care options for older children.
