Austin, bc it is very similar to Chicago in the food/music/festival scene. We like that, but we have also experienced that here, in that we live downtown here in a skyscraper. We were considering a move to the suburbs here on the north shore of Lake Michigan in Wilmette until the weather here showed us how awful it can be. Wilmette, like Lake Travis is 30-40 mins away from downtown in non-rush hour. So in essence, we are looking for our "Wilmette", someplace that has better weather.

Should I be too worried about the water level in Lake Travis? Will it go back up or simply dry up?

Would that be a good place to raise a family?

If Travis dries up, you will be out of drinking water ANYWHERE in Austin, essentially.....

Did you see his price point? Where is he getting near Lake Austin in Eanes? That's not even in consideration. Have you looked at test scores lately in McCallum and rankings? Not much to brag about... yes, it's getting "better" as more people are moving into this area and less are sending their kids to private school, but still doesn't stand up to the LT schools. And that's not on Lake Austin, that's Central.

For what you want, you want to be on the S side of the lake, not Lago Vista, which is N. Better schools S, and 30 to downtown v. 45.

There is a reason it is cheaper.

Is there anywhere that shows the different "sidewalk" communities?

I really like the look of the Hills and falconhead btw.

Why do houses in Lakepointe sit for so long?

Right now there are 14 for sale, and only 2 under contract - or about 15% of the listings. This tells me that prices need to fall.

If you look at neighborhoods near SPM in SW Austin, they are close to 80-90% under contract.

Go look on the MLS and see for yourself - definately some softening in the BeeCaves/LT area

heck, there is a house for 280K available in Lakepoint right now, the same price as what's selling in the Southpark Meadows area.
