Anyone know how to find a home to rent for just 1 month? Due to our move to new home being postponed we are looking to rent a nice home in North west (ish) Austin for 1 month - so our 3 kids don't have to spend Christmas stuck in a small and gloomy apartment! We are a very well-behaved, clean family, no pets!

Default craigslist

You should post your request on Craigslist... you are more likely to get a response. Also look at vrbo.com, there might be a monthly rental on the site. Good luck!

I second the idea of using vrbo.com. We used the site when we were moving outof our old house and the house we were moving into hadn't closed yet. They gave us a cheaper rate since we rented for 3 consecutive weeks instead of just a week or weekend. Good luck!

Thank you! I had looked at vrbo.com already (I should have said so) but all the houses were downtown or near the lakes - we have kids in school in NW Austin, and although I am prepared for a bit of driving I think an hour each way at rush hour might be too much! Any other ideas? I'll try the craigslist one now.....

Default CHristmas

It would probally be easier for you to stay in the apartment and spend the money to stay at lovely suite at a down town hotel for four days at Christmas.
My parents did this when we were stuck between moves and it was one of the most magical Christmas I remember. The hotel was beautifully decorated and the suite was lush. The Hotel staff went out of their way to make us feel specail the desk clerk called the room and pretended to be Santa checking what room number we were in. We were 6,8 and 10 at the time.We had a room service breakfast and opened presents. Itwas great.

The apartment cost was covered by our relo, but it will cost us $115 a day from this week on, so paying a hotel on top would mean no presents for the kids! But it is a lovely idea....thank you.

Are there any other websites for vacation rentals in Austin apart from vrbo.com?

I've tried Craigslist (also posted a wanted ad) and vrbo.com, and I've emailed lots of rental agents. Still trying to find another source/website of holiday home rentals...

Looks like it would only be for 2, maybe 3 weeks; around 21 December - 7 January.

Isn't there a site for home swapping? I can't remember what the name of it is, but I saw something on a news show about it and looked it up once. Maybe google home swapping and see what comes up? Exchangehomes.com is one that came up, but there are many others.
