You might want to look on zillow for rentals. I know Westcreek Langing (Brush Country and William Cannon) sometimes has a few of their town homes for rent.

Unless you stand on chairs and scream about bugs, it's nothing... but bugs are a fact of life. They don't hurt you really - a scorpion sting is no big deal unless you're allergic and most people aren't. There are no toxic scorpions in Texas - in Arizona, yeah - but not here. I've been stung several times and it's like a hornet sting but it isn't going to kill you.

This is a tough country with extremes in climate and rugged land rather than nice farm land - unless you stay east of I-35 in which case you could get some farm land. You'll do best in raised beds if you settle to the west, with drip irrigation.

Depending on your timeline, there are 2 new major master planned communities in either development or construction phases in Southeast Austin: Addison, and Easton Park. Addison is the smaller of the 2 communities and further along than Easton Park. Addison is a 195 acre master planned community with 4 builders: Buffington, Milestone, Pacesetter Homes, and Homes by Avi. The builders are now pre-selling homes there. The community has broken ground and the builders will start building models and spec homes August 1. Target market is empty nesters and professionals. At build out, Addison will have a total of 600 homes. There were some write ups about it in the Austin Business Journal and on KXAN not too long ago. You can drive by it and see they are progressing quickly.
The larger community, Easton Park, is 2200 acres and will have over a dozen builders. The development plan is huge. It will be alot like the master planned communities you see in California with parks, retail, mixed use, etc., in addition to residential. That community is about 8 months out from breaking ground and a year out from having models on the ground.
You will start to notice quite a bit of developement along the east corridor of i-35 between i-35 and 130 toll road, from Hutto down to San Antonio. For Austinites specifically, the east side of DT corridor towards Buda is about to release a lot of housing into the marketplace. The reason being that the major developers hold large portions of land for large communities. They're close to DT Austin, unlike the NW corridor out 183 past Leander and Georgetown. It will be a mindset shift for many who have lived here for a long time. But then again, south Congress wasn't exactly prime real estate in the early '90's, either. We've seen that area come along way as well.
