Has anyone been to Bastrop state park lately?

Still a lot of fire damage? Would you go camping there now?

I haven't but I know people that have gone back. I imagine it's fine.

I went a month or so ago. There is fire damage in some parts, but the forest is making a recovery and I think it makes for an interesting hike. They've clearly put some work into repairing the trails, and most of their permanent structures are still standing. They made a special effort to protect the old cabins at the lake from the fires.

Is it still pretty crowded?

We drove out there and were disappointed by the amount of people there.

One of the down sides to living in (a fast growing) Texas, I guess...

Never had much of a crowd problem there, but maybe it was just timing....was out there a few weeks ago, not much crowd then, but it was a cloudy day and rain had been forecast.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

I took the kids and had a great time. There was still some evidence of the fire, but not too bad.

I stayed in the Creekside area, where you have to walk your gear in for about 50 yards. Only about half of the sites were occupied. I did walk through the "drive-up" camping area to visit the facilities there, and that was more crowded. That's not exactly the remote camping experience, but still a nice way to spend some time outside. With nice bathroom and shower facilities nearby, it was great.
