I just happened on to this forum.

My family owned the property ya'll now call the preserve from the late 60's until sale to the La Ventana group. It used to be a beautiful and isolated property with a gorgeous waterfall on Flat Creek. If I can ever find this forum again, I will be glad to answer any questions about the place.

Doug

Just out of curiosity, what sorts of questions regarding the property would you be prepared to answer?

There was a creek that ran into Flat Creek about 70 yards from the west fence line. The Hudeks had a house there in the 30's and 40's before they moved to the south end of the property. The pot hunters used to have a field day digging up ancient arrow heads in the area. There were middens all over the area. The water fall was about 10 feet high and about 18 feet wide. It dumped into a pool at the bottom....gorgeous.

As far as what type questions would I answer?...I dont know what might be helpful, but I can help with the history of the place.

The original part of La Ventana was owned by the Owens family for years and years. Sometime around 1971 or so, it was bought By Pat Robinson ...an attorney in Austin. He kept it until some time in the 1980's when it was sold to Mr Hinkle from Houston. Mr Hinkle did a massive amount of work on the place. He cleared cedar and planted grass for the angus cattle he raised. He built the big red auction barn that is now used for offices I believe. In the mid 90's he sold it to Mr Levinson, who created La Ventana. He built a big swimming pool on Flat creek and created a playground and BarB Q area on Flat creek. That convinced me to sell what is now called "The Preserve"

My Dad bought that property in 1968. At that time it was so secluded you could see the stars in the night sky like powder. The milky way was clearly visable. By the time I sold it, I was lucky to be able to pick out the full moon.

Hey Original - Do you remember the Colonial Terrace trailer park on the east side of South Lamar, not far from where the Broken Spoke is now?

The Preserve is lovely too. I live further out at Bell Springs and Fitzhugh. Back when fitzhugh was chip sealed and Bell was an oiled road.
