From the same website, PRK also has more than its fair share of issues even if it doesn't leave the flap that doesn't heal.

And what a surprise...elective surgeries have complications.. Who would have thought?

Note from the Editor: Frequently I get emails from people who want to know if PRK is safer than LASIK. I am not a doctor, so I can only offer my personal opinion.
PRK carries many of the same risks as LASIK except for flap complications. Many surgeons now use a chemotherapy drug called mitomycin-C (MMC) when performing PRK to prevent haze. MMC leads to cell death. MMC has been reported to have long-term adverse effects. Here's a link to a collection of research articles on MMC. Click here
Moreover, some ophthalmologists speculate that permanent destruction of the Bowman's membrane during PRK may lead to late-onset complications. Bowman's membrane is a protective barrier between the environment and the corneal stroma.
I have interacted with countless PRK patients who had a poor outcome. Haze, dry eyes, and night vision problems are the most common complaints after PRK. Regression is also common after PRK.
Bottom line, I am opposed to all forms of unnecessary eye surgery. Keep your glasses!

I had blade-free Lasik done in about 2003, it was also custom wavemapped (new at the time), at the Berkeley-Mann Eye Institute in S. Austin. Paid $4000 for both eyes (covered 50% by insurance at the time though). One eye was perfect right after the surgery, the other took about a month to clear up with frequent use of eye drops (continued taking drops for another 5 months then was no longer necessary and have not used them since).

Definitely have not regretted getting the surgery! No issues with dry eyes since the post-operative healing time (though permanent dry eyes is a possible complication with Lasik).

Since 2003 it looks like Berkeley Mann split up but Mann Eye is still in Austin.
