Blue Corn Harvest is good if you want to avoid chains. We've been there twice and liked it. Also like Freda's near Lakeline Mall. Wish more people would discover this place. They are doing a great job of providing a nice, non-chain, local dining experience. It's usually pretty crowded for lunch, never been for dinner.
Freda's Seafood Grille - North Austin Seafood, Steaks, and Fine Dining
Muang Thai is also good. A bit of a hole in the wall. But food is good.

Freda's isn't getting very good reviews on yelp. That's likely their problem. Can't hide these days. Gotta be on your game every single night or the bad reviews will eat you up. Blue Corn Harvest gets good reviews.

Depends on what you call a "chain" (and I'm all about shopping, and eating, local, and am a foodie). Z Tejas, for example, is a local restaurant of long-standing that opened up another location. That's far from being a Denny's or In-N-Out. Dos Salsas has two, count 'em, two locations. While good, they're not my favorite Mexican food (that would go to Azul Tequila, but they're about to open a second location in Austin, so that will mean they're no good any more, apparently), but I'd hardly call them a "chain". When French Quarter Grille opened a second location in Round Rock (now closed due to developer, not food, reasons), did their food suddenly take a nose dive because they were now a "chain" per your criteria?

If you're willing to drive just a teeny bit from Cedar Park, Dahlia Cafe in Liberty Hill is a real winner well worth the drive.

Near Cedar Park center, we like Rosie's its a Vietnamese/thai/Chinese hybrid - inexpensive and pretty good.
