Alligator spotted in Del Valle pond

Police: Alligator spotted in Del Valle pond | www.statesman.com

Authorities in the Austin area have warned residents about mosquitoes, flash flooding and hurricanes in recent weeks, but on Thursday, Austin police issued a new plea: Don’t approach an alligator’s nest.

The advice follows reports of alligator sightings in and near a pond in the 13000 block of Thome Valley Drive in Del Valle. The water is near dozens of homes and a community swimming pool.
Residents there have put up alligator safety signs to warn others about the reptile, and a sign indicating the pond is an alligator habitat.
Matt Gibson, who works for the company that manages the local homeowners association, said that residents have seen two alligators at the pond. Asked how many people have seen them, Gibson said, “Enough to know they exist.”
