My current grill is beginning to outlive it's usefulness, and I am thinking about getting a new one.

My budget isn't super high (no more than $500), but I'm willing to stretch if there's an especially good one that's only a bit more.

What I really want is a grill that get's so hot that I'll be able to cook steak correctly, i.e., the inside will still be rare, while the outside is charred.

Anyway, this is Texas, so I hoped you guys would have some good grill recommendations.

For steaks, just use a turkey fryer and a cast iron pan.

Otherwise, right now is the worst time to buy a grill - wait until October/November and look for one of the Weber Genesis outdoor stoves, er... Gas grills.

Another vote for Weber. I have a Summit gas grill (when I'm too lazy to fire up the BGE) and it does a swell job. Buy the best Weber your budget allows.

One 'casualty' of our downsize was replacing our 4-burner nat gas fired 48" DCS built-in grill with the basic Weber 22" kettle. I've cooked more on the little Weber already than I cooked in a year on the DCS. A hundred bucks if you can't find one on sale...sure handles the basics!

On the other hand, the last two ribeye dinners were cooked in a ripping hot cast iron skillet on the stove top! When a steak is involved, a solution WILL be found

There's a reason that weber kettle has been around forever. They work great.

Definitely give that turkey fryer + cast iron pan a go, if you happen to have a turkey fryer. Picked that one up a few years back and it works great.

I am really, really happy with my Weber Spirit. It gets ridiculously hot.

I just got the little Weber Spirit 210 (2 burner) - they are $399 everywhere. The Spirit 310 (3 burner) is $100 more.... I think.

My little one is the best gas grill we've ever had.

Home Depot will assemble them for you free.

Another fan of Weber here. We've had our 3 burner one for 12 years now and it's still going strong. Worth the extra money you pay for them because they do last a long time.

Put me in the Weber Spirit parade as well. Had one before we built a GE into the new house, and it did great. Built like iron, attractive. Cooks like a champ.

Like ScoPro said - you can get the three burner w/in your budget.

big green egg is awesome. It keeps constant temps so you can smoke a brisket in it, cook a pizza or just grill.

They come up used sometimes. Costco also has a version that comes in black.
