So we moved into Bee Cave a week ago and today had two different cold callers? One trying to sell pest control services and the other hawking some environmental charity. Is this normal and is there a notice we can put up that will get the message through to people that we don't buy anything at the door?

Thanks, Rob.

You put a No Soliciting sign on your door or front window. That stops most, but some will claim they didn't notice it.

Yes, it's common as the usual speech is that they were treating a neighbor's house and they would love for you to sign up for their "whatever" too as they can come back all at the same time and hit the neighborhood together. I slowly close the door in their faces...

Thanks. Just print one off and laminate it or do they do nice big fancy ones in Lowes or similar?

Rob.

They make kinda that look like corporate name plates that some attach to their doors. Most people just tape a sign on the inside of their side window, so no need to laminate if it's on the inside. There are no rules. I don't personally have a sign because I don't mind when the football players and drill team and cheerleaders stop by asking for donations.

I've always wanted to put a trashcan by my door with an arrow and a note that says "Please deposit your trash/flyer here" so I could stop all the notices. So annoying.

We get someone knockin' once a month. Alarms, windows, energy audits, you name it. Doesn't really bother me, they seem mostly honest and just trying to make a living.

The "no solicitors" sign never works for me. I realize some are trying to make an honest living but I don't like door to door sales. In most places they are suppose to have a permit.

I have a sign that says:

Got my religion
Got my alarm
No pests
Got my gun

Cuts down almost all of them. The rest? I let the dog out.

We have one of those signs. It is over the door bell. We get sales people anyway, but they seldom ring the doorbell; they just knock. Although it may have kept some from trying (unless you keep a video record, how would you know?) I think the sign is pretty useless. When opening the door to one of these folks, I have actually pointed to the sign, and they just say "yes, but......." and launch into their schpeel. Not much to do but say no thanks.

Thanks for all the replies. Seems like there is no harm in putting the sign up if it becomes a huge problem. We've just moved in so we will give it a few weeks to see if yesterday was just a bad day.

I have a much simpler solution. I simply don't answer the door without
first ascertaining who it is calling.
