I will be relocating to Austin soon for my job.

Our office there is in South Austin near Ben White and William Cannon.

My housing budget is somewhat limited and I am looking to max out at 230k.

It would seem housing in the Buda/Kyle area is much cheaper. That being said how terrible would be the commute up from these areas and what are the communities like there?

Appreciate any info you guys have.

You don't have to move to Kyle. You can get a house within city limits in a nice area. Look at:

Olympic Heights
Rancho Alto
Parkside at Slaughter
Bradshaw Crossing

btw, William Cannon and Ben White intersect at the Y in Oak Hill, which is far SW. Is that correct?

The commute wouldn't be too bad from Kyle and Buda, but I would recommend not taking I35 and taking the side streets. Yes, lots of lights, but better than stop and go. The reason being is all the K/B people who need to get downtown or anywhere north of the River will be taking I35, so it's best/better to get out of that traffic.

You can get a lot for your money in those areas, and Waterleaf is a very nice community.

I would live close to your job and avoid freeways if possible. Look for neighborhoods within the city limits that allow you to take city streets to you job. The neighborhoods listed earlier allow that.

Check out Maple Run and Cherry Creek if you can find something. Very convenient to your job location.

My daughter has a house in "Meadows of Buda" and her utilities are crazy. They have just over $100.00 charge for water and sewer BEFORE the water bill is figured. I don't know what the other bills add up to but the water/sewer charge alone would keep me out of that development. I pay around that for my whole City Bill in the winter with the $46 in added charges. I will not gripe about my Austin City Bill ever again!

$100 ? thats nuts.

It will be bad enough getting used to city utilities as I have a well and septic as it is now.
