A house is being built next door to me, and over the weekend, the port-a-potty was moved so that it is now inches from my fence and approximately 25 feet from my house. It's driving my husband crazy, and at the speed with which they have built other houses around us, we are expecting it to be there for 10-12 months. I'm having trouble finding out what the regulations are for the placements of portable toilets and if there is a requirement that they have to be a certain distance from a residence. The positioning makes us downwind of the thing any time we want to go out on our back patio. Can anyone point me to where I might find this information?

Try to get them to move it. If nothing else, call the regional TCEQ office and report a nuisance odor from the PaP.

Region Directory

Call the 'main line' number when you have significant odors and explain the situation to whoever answers the phone. They will either transfer you to a field inspector, or will open a 'case' number so you can call and see what has been done.

Pull it over your property line.

Put your house on the market with an additional .25 bathroom.

Profit.

Agreed, just call the builder. It's in their best interest to keep the neighbors happy while they're building.

On the other hand, if they were inconsiderate enough to place it there initially...

Good luck!

I have seen where builders have put one the grass strip between the curb and the sidewalk. Is this allowable in Austin?

The neighborhood high school kids will have it tipped over in a day or two.
