Default Would you describe Austin as masculine or feminine?

I think this a pretty interesting question, for the following reason. I find Austin as very much a feminine(in the best sense of the word, the empowering sense) city, yet, the population skews relatively heavily towards males(53-47%). The mindset itself has a strong, earthy, creative feminine feel to it. The issues that are favored/discussed per Green topics, ambiance of the city or lack thereof, peace issues, and such, also reflect a feminist mindset. Again, yet, it skews male....Am I wrong in implying that these are feminine mindsets? Can a reasonably large gay male population explain the skewing? Just what mindset should one expect from a majority male population?

And, finally, after I've gotten off my soapbox, would you consider Austin's persona male or female, and why?

Female. Because it's so ornate ... so beautiful. And it really tries to be - people who live here do so largely because Austin is so aesthetically pleasing. Because beauty is most associated with females, I'd say that Austin's a "girl."

Interesting..or maybe beyond gender.....but I would still consider it a VERY feminine city. I really find so much beauty in it created by so many people in a physical sense, and in all those little things. People simply respect feminine principles of peace and creativity(remember that most earth godesses in mythology represented the creative principle, which Austin personifies to the nth degree) so much in Austin. Yes, Austin is no doubt gloriously feminine...as opposed to the balls out resource aggrandizing and wasting cities such as Houston and DFW, which are as male as they come........San Antonio would be feminine as well....the riverwalk is like moving inside a giant but narrow uterus...

You should be a tour guide for one of the riverwalk boat tours just to drop that analogy on a bunch of unsuspecting tourists! Ha! Hilarious

I agree Austin has a mostly feminine disposition, but the aggressive driving, and annoying traffic(masculine) more than balance things out.

Let's see : Austin talks about itself all the time and rarely makes sense, and there are a couple hills on one side ... must be female

CAll it the Yin/Yang principle at work....Drivers simply re-establish the balanced Karma that is Austin as a whole. Hey, at least we don't shoot
each other on off-ramps like LA.
