I am looking to purchase 2/3 bales of hay for a mini pumpkin patch at a local school in the rr area. Willing to travel to pflugerville, hutto, or georgetown... I understand they come in various sizes but this would be standard rectangular shape. Any suggestions?

Do a search for a feed store.

Or do a search for "square bales" on the Austin craigslist Farm and Garden category (under For Sale). There's an ad up right now for $5.50/bale in Pflugerville/Hutto. And that's just one of the first ones that comes up.

Gaddy's in Pflugerville on FM 685 has square bales.
Call them first to see if they have any on hand though.

Hi everyone, I am looking for STRAW, not Hay in the Parmer/Mopac and Hyde Park areas of Austin, Texas... Im using them to grown potatoes btw.

Also, do you know if the straw bales sold at HOBBY LOBBY are real or just fake decorative bales?

Thanks, Kaszandra

We've used old hay for growing potatoes and it worked just fine.

Thanks for responding. Fortunately I found someone who'd deliver Straw through Craigslist.

I've read that HAY would sprout weeds and I'm striving to avoid any more work than I already have with my back yard work.

I researched potato towers and I see Straw Straw Straw, never Hay, and anyone who does mention Hay, mentions the weed problem with that option.
