My dog was stolen from my house by an exroommate while being witnessed by my dog caretaker at the time. The exroommate is denying he took him and says he ran away. I've posted on Craig's list & local shelters, even updating his microchip. I've had him 12 yrs & consider him part of my family. I filed for a civil case but know there's no guarantee in finding my dog besides having personal property stolen & being forced to move out of my rental home by this individual. I was wondering if I could subpoena his phone records to find my dog or file criminal charges for dog theft? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Time for a stakeout!

Do you know where the ex now lives?

Cause I'm curious, was the ex-roomie a romantic involvement?

Also register him as a lost dog with the City of Austin shelter, search for him as if he was a lost dog because often when dogs are taken like this for spite they are quickly dumped.

I'm so sorry to hear this.. sounds like a nightmare scenerio.

yes, check with shelters and file a police report. Check with the shelters out of town as well.
that is good news the dog has a chip. does the roommate know that?

if there is a witness, you should have validity for a search warrant to be issued.

what a horrible thing to do. i'm so sorry.. good luck

That is definitely a criminal matter if the roommate stole your dog. Contact the police.
