We are a family of 5 with a dog, gearing up to renovate our home in Central Austin this spring. We feel like it is definitely best to move out since it is an extensive renovation and addition. We wanted to hear stories about how others have managed this - our three kids are in day care not yet school and we anticipate a 6-9 month construction schedule. Are there short term rentals that folks know of that are for situations like this? We are thinking of just moving most of our stuff into storage and finding a furnished rental but just wondering what others have done. Pros, Cons, Hindsite lessons learned... Cheers!

We have friends doing this now, albeit with no kids but a dog. They got it through one of those Homeaway type sites. It's fully furnished. They packed most stuff into storage and brought the things they use every day that aren't provided like specialty kitchen gadgets. They're about a month into it and so far so good.

If you have vacation rentals nearby, almost a certainty if you are central, you can ask one if they will give you a discounted rate for a 6-9 month lease (or even better find one that is in the process of getting permitted as a vacation rental, they can't rent it weekly and would probably jump at the chance for a short term tenant.)

This is where the neighborhood list serves really shine. I'd ask on there and if you aren't on yours already, join!
