Where is the sales tax the lowest in the Austin area? And what is the sales tax rate there, please?

5.25% is the base rate for the state of Texas. Cities can add (and usually do) up to an additional 3.00%, for a total of 8.25%. In general, assume that any city has 8.25% and any unincorporated area is 5.25%. The problem is, even out in the county, you have to go into a city and pay their sales tax to buy most things.

Sunset Valley is probably the lowest. I think it's 8.0%. Pretty much every city maxes out the sales tax.

Sunset Valley is interesting in that the sales tax fuels the entire city, almost to the exclusion of other taxes, or so I understand. The huge concentration of big box stores draws an enormous amount of sales and allows the city to keep a slightly lower sales tax and keep the property taxes a bit lower.
