If you need a new license and live in NW Austin/Cedar Park I would highly recommend making the trip out to the Georgetown DMV (although I don't think they're called the DMV here.) I went to the one on 183 and 620 and the wait was 2.5 hours. Like my two toddlers are going to be happy sitting around the DMV that long! Anyway, I remember the guy working at the post office mentioning there was a DMV in Georgetown and that there was never any wait. So I drove all the way out there and was in and out in 10 minutes. My husband went yesterday and it was almost as fast. It was definitely worth the trip for us.

Good to know. When I got married in 97 my wife and drove to San Marcus to get the marriage license. They did not have a wait and did not require witnesses.

Also, the place where I got my car inspected told me I had to get my registration in my county of residence (travis, even though the williamson office was closer), but you can get your license wherever you want.

In case you can make the trip, I did mine a few years ago in San Marcos in the middle of a weekday. Walked right in, walked right out.

I always do mine in Georgetown! The longest I have ever seen the line is maybe 4 people, and that is rare!

Hi everyone,

I live in the Dripping Springs area - any DMV's closeby - also are any of them open on Weekends - I just need to change my license from a NJ one to a Texas one

Look at txdot.gov to find out the locations. Here it is DPS, department of public safety. say DMV to nost natives and they will look at you strange.
