Wasn't it supposed to be like 72 degrees today? It's 5:00 and it hasn't gotten out of the 50s. First he ice storm (which never happened) that shut down schools, and now this. Seriously, I have never lived anywhere that had such a horrible track record of reporting the weather.

I know. I wore a shorter sleeved shirt in anticipation, but no dice.

I hope it gets to the 70s tomorrow!

I've taken to heaping horrific amounts of verbal abuse at YNN's Burton Fitzsimmons, probably the nicest guy in the world, over the past month. I recognize that meteorology is a really complex science here in Cen Tex, but CAMMON!

All weatherguessers get their data from the National Weather Service...and are free to misinterpret it as they see fit!

On the other hand, they were super-accurate with the rainfall totals predicted...including the gradual increases from NW to SE

A weather forecast is a prediction not a promise. Austin is subject to far more weather influences than any other place that I have ever lived. El Nino, La Nina, jet stream fluctuations, low pressure systems from Mexico, Pinneapple Express, Artic Blasts, Blue Northers, Hurricanes, gulf water temperatures. It does not surprise me anymore when the forecast prepared 24 hours ago is wrong.

It took me about 6 months of living here to realize that anywhere that commonly sees 30-40 degree temperature swings in a 24 hour period is going to require a little prep.

So our cars are are outfitted. In my trunk where once resided a compact snow shovel, a 20lb bag of salt/grit and umbrellas now reside hats, light jackets, sunblock and some well worn sunglasses.

And rain wasn't predicted in the forecast this morning either. One TV weather guy said the other day, "No rain for the next week" ...rolls eyes.

You should add a rain coat or parka and battery powered light in case you ever have to change a tire at night or in the rain.
