Hi all - My husband is a high school teacher and we are relocating to Austin. He currently teaches at a high school that is predominantly inner city latin and would like to continue teaching inner city latinos in Austin. Can someone tell me which school districts have the largest inner city latin population and in particular, which high schools he should seek out?

Thank you in advance!

There's almost zero "Latin" population here, and many of the Hispanics, Tejanos and Chicanos will find being called "Latin" pretty damn offensive. After all, their trip here was probably shorter than yours.

Austin doesn't have any true inner city high schools. The closest ones I can think of Regan, Lanier and Travis are all in AISD.

Yes. Austin does not have an "inner city" like some bigger places do. For a predominantly Hispanic, predominately lower income school, try Travis or Lanier high schools in AISD.

Latino/a was actually the preferred term in post-modern academic circles but that changes every 5 years or so. People from different parts of the country call them or themselves different things. Typically, in Texas they are called Mexicans or Hispanics. In the Northeast they call themselves/them "Spanish" although many have little to no European heritage. And, of course, many people just call themselves Dominican or Puerto Rican or Honduran, etc.

Btw, check out schooldigger.com under the Students tab. They carry ethnic breakouts. There are plenty of Hispanics in Austin.

Not a whole bunch of 'inner city' there.
