Many studies have confirmed that parking on the streets is actually safer as it causes drivers to slow down. Apparently people in cars are much more worried about hitting another car parked along the street than hitting children or pedestrians. Then again, the pedestrian is an extinct species in these types of subdivisions.

While clean streets may be a side effect of parking restrictions, I think the main reason parking restrictions are put into HOA's is to keep people from converting their garages into living space. Typically, the suburban subdivision try to control traffic speed with a rat's maze of meandering streets and cul de sacs with different street widths depending on use.

I don't live in RP but drive through it quite often and I can assure you that the pedestrian is alive and active there. There is hardly a time day or night you will drive down the arteries and not see a wide variety of people out on the streets.

I agree! That's part of why we like it here...people are always out and about jogging or biking!
