Nothing about the OP's query mentioned that the trip would cover the weekend. Yes, the cost per night is greater but if they aren't shopping the savings may well be worth the extra cost!

Even weeknights are 2X the OP's max.

From the OP's post:

"Ideally I'd like a location close (5-10 min drive max) to shopping and restaurants, but I'm also looking for suggestions on other attractions. Ideally I'd like everything within a 15 min drive from a low/mid-priced hotel (~180-220/night)
"

HUH?

on the shopping thing, true there is not a lot of shopping downtown but there is a lot of shopping on S. Congress. Some of it is funky but there are some nice women clothing boutiques and vintage

Hence my point about the savings on shopping. if you're at a resort you're not shopping. But hey, just a thought. I know my wife spends less when she's at a resort than she does on a shopping vacation. To each his or her own.

Austin Motel South Congress. All Saturdays seem to be booked through the Spring, so I would call them directly.

Less than 150 a night.
