I can understand your position. I'm a New Yorker myself. I think the best thing I did was leave NYC in NYC and open my mind to what's here instead. the transition from city to suburb was made willingly, so it wasn't that hard, but I can imagine it can be a challenge for others. just keep in mind that by living in the suburbs, or at least most suburbs, you are not cutting yourself off from the activities in Austin. Also keep in mind that there are also lots of things to do in the suburbs too. When you put it all together, you'll really not get bored. I think I've just scratched the surface with things to do. Like I said, I'm heading to Deutschen Pfest this year!

Great responses and lots of good information. We moved to Hutto last year and find it to be a nice mix of suburbia close enough to feel part of the metro area. As one other mentioned, the Impact newspaper is a tremendous asset with information on activities, restaurants, and many community resources. I highly suggest you check it out.
