$500 deductible will have a higher premium, 1% deductible will have a lower premium.
My State Farm insurance is half of that. It's an eleven year old home with 1% deductible.

Then I'd be willing to bet you're not fully covered. Check your water damage coverage. And liability portion.

In the old pre-mold days (pre-early-2000s) most policies were apples to apples and included pretty much the same coverage. Now it's more aa cart so shoppers can be fooled into "cheaper" coverage, but left exposed to greater risk.

Our coverage with Germania for our house in Barton Hills (which they review with us regularly to make sure it covers everything and to make adjustments where necessary), valued at considerably more than $300,000, is a lot less than that, too - it's in the $1,000 range with a $500 deductible. But, as the insurance companies that called us incessantly right after we purchased assuring us that they could beat any premium we were paying said (if they didn't just say, "Never mind" and hang up), Germania is a different breed of cat.

Or maybe not "fooled" at all. Maybe they CHOOSE to not have some coverages.
