Alternative to Whole Foods?
I just went food shopping at Whole Foods the other day for the first time. Ouch! Talk about expensive! I've shopped Farmer's Markets and Trader Joe's for over a year and never paid so much. Does Austin have a better priced natural foods store?

Central Market, or some HEBs (the 'green' stores, but not colored that way ).

I didn't know that some of the HEBs were "green". I'll look up Central market. Thanks, Trainwreck!

The green ones just have an expanded organic section, plus a 'cafe on the run', maybe a few visible other differences. They do design the green stores to be slightly more energy efficient and try to integrate recycling into the operation, but not very visible to the customers.

A lot of the HEB's are also selling the Central Market brand of organic foods.
The HEB in Pflugerville does and boy does that make it convenient.

The HEBs (with the expanded organic section, as mentioned), also Sun Harvest (1 store north on Anderson, 1 store south on Lamar/290). Or if you are central, there is Wheatsville Coop and a Minimax (IGA).
Central Market is competitive on some produce, but overall seems about as expensive (sometimes more) as Whole Foods.

Do you think that the HEB green stores and Sun Harvest is better priced than Whole Foods?

organic
Angel Valley Farms for organic X2 a week (right now, closed for the season)- Jollyville in North Austin on Wednesdays and Jonestown on Saturdays. Sun Harvest has two locations, north central and south. I agree with the post that HEB and Central Market are good choices. Farmer's market in Sunset Valley on Saturdays. I shop with Angel Valley Farms, Whole Foods and HEB. Any other farmer's markets?

Yes I know that but previously I had to go to Central Market to buy their brands. Now they are carried by the local HEB's. We don't have a Central Market in Pflugerville so having the brand in HEB makes it convenient.
