Maps of neighborhoods or zip codes?
hi:
In reading threads, I'm seeing all sort of neightborhood and subdivision names -- things like Western oakes, Circle C, lantera, etc. Also lots of references to the various zip codes.
is there a good weblink with maps of the Austin area showing zips or neighborhood/subdivison names?

Here is a link to a zip code map that I use. As far as maps of any subdivisions and where they are located I wouldn't know where to locate that, but if you would like I can make you a map with the areas in question and send it your way.

This site on the Statesman.com is really good. It has a neighborhood profile section for many of the large subdivisions in various parts of town. You can click on the map to drill down further into a specific area and read up on various subdivisions in that area. It's not all inclusive, but it hits a lot of the high points.

Thank, this is enough to get me started!
Derek, thanks for offering to make a "custom" map for me. I'm not interested in particular areas right now, but more generally in how Austin has grown. I left in 1978, when the hot debates was whether the recently opened MoPac was really necessary, or would it destroy Austin as we knew it?
I've visited at least twice a year since 1978 as my parents still live there, but I don't recogize most of the neighborhoos or subdivision names now! Back then, Northwest Hills was the frontier of the town.
I'm hoping to move "home" in 2009, so I'm starting to get the lay of the land now. Judging how the area has mushroomed, it will take a while!

That it has! A fun thing to do might be to play around with google maps or google earth and look at the arial shots and how things have changed.

Some of the real estate home search engines give lists of subdivisions to search by, such as
Moderator cut: Realtor web site
You can then look at the map facility to see where that subdivision is.

Statesman is good as gigi927 states. You could also check out smallplanetguide to see some good Austin neighborhood profiles.

Sorry, I didn't know it was attached to a particular realtor....
Anyway, I found it when I searched for austin home listings and assumed it was a generic mls site?

Just to interject, this is a common 'problem', although obviously not by anyone's specific intent to circumvent the rules. Many, many realtors put up very good web sites with lots of functions that access the MLS, but they are then considered realtor specific links and cannot be listed because they promote or advertise one or a group of realtors.
