Default Moving Costs

We are 99 percent sure we are moving to Austin From Kentucky in the spring and was wondering if anyone had a vague or pretty good idea about the total costs of getting set up there. We will be moving our selves with a rental truck and one family vehicle. If anyone has made a move there similar to that one about 1100 miles and had any info that would be great.

I have not made a move like that but there is a really cool site that has a Moving Quotes Estimator on it. The estimator is near the middle right hand side of the page. It is based on other people moving you however. It shows moving costs other people got on their website. It doesn't ask for any information like email so you don't have to worry about moving companies bugging you like other moving quotes websites...you just put in the to/from zip codes. Could give you a rough estimate. Hope it helps!

The moving van was the one thing we knew the price of up front. It was all the misc. stuff that really added up. Renting blankets for packing, moving boxes, hotels/meals on the trip down (our trip was 1000 miles too. We took it slow and spread it out over three days.), hotels when we got here (didn't close on our house for four days after we arrived), new vehicle registration/new drivers licenses, all new groceries (we didn't bring anything from our fridge, so that meant all new salad dressings, jam, etc. It adds up after a while). You get the idea. I have no idea how much it all cost, but it wasn't cheap. So make sure you take it all into account if you are really pinching pennies.

Ah, I'm actually moving from Indy to Austin so I feel somewhat qualified to pitch in here. I got a quote from U-Haul for a 16' truck with a tow dolly for the car for around $1200. Penske quoted me about $300 less, so you definitely want to give them a shot. Honestly my furniture isn't really worth either price, so I'm gonna be loading up the trunk and back seat and just heading on down.
