Exactly one year ago. It's on Speedway, half a block north of 45th. On the right.
I would be shocked if it hasn't gone up to at least 700 in the past year for new renters.

I doubt it's gone up that much. Not much has changed in a year. I have moved twice in the past two years, incidentally, so I'm very in touch with the central Austin rental market.

It's true that your options will greatly expand if your budget is $750 or $800, though.

Good luck.

I don't know where you are coming from but the worst place is in Austin might be just a middling neighborhood in a major city. Don't leave **** in your car and make sure you lock it

I work in the St. John's West area and just went into an old apartment complex across the street just to find out how much the rent is. The 1 bedrooms are starting at $850. The complex has new owners and are sprucing up the place. I don't think the area is that bad. It's very convenient to I-35 and Lamar and is centrally located.

Austin overall is safer compared to large cities. Even in neighborhoods that are not considered the greatest, it is still relatively safe. But the $650 rent does not exist anymore unless you share an apartment with another person.
