It better not.....I hate Illinois Nazis.

But if winter cold weather avoidance is the only criteria, there are much better cities than Austin. Phoenix, Miami, even Los Angeles are warmer in the winter.

For a change of scenery.. Weather, the hills, the what I thought was a good music scene (turns out not for my type of music though), the housing costs, the job opportunities, the overall cost of living and what you get for your money. I miss the food everyday, and of course family and friends. Austin has been really good to us financially. Nothing beats chi town in summer and fall though football on the tv, leaves changing colors and Bon fires, sweatshirt weather.. Both have their pros and cons. I could see us staying here for a super long time (we are homeowners here and are well established in our careers) but I could also see potentially going somewhere else or back to Chicago one day in the future. Who knows.

Yeah but I thought the infamous "illinois nazis" were from Skokie, not Cicero?

Illinois has Nazi skinhead types all over. I hope they are not the ones flooding Austin...

Well, I can only tell you why we're moving. My husband lost his job in Chicago about a year ago. Jobs in his field at his level are few & far between. He had a handful of job prospects scattered around the country, but the one in Austin seemed like the best fit for him, and the nicest area to move to. I'm not really from Chicago anyway, I'm from FL! And I don't like Chicago style deep dish, have never found pizza here I like. We relocated to Chicago in 2008, again for his job. Yeah, winter before last nearly did me in. Now if we can just sell this house so I can move already.
