Barton Lodge for sure.. I lived their for a year and its a nice small complex. You drive time to work will be 8 minutes easy.

I agree with Rnelson --- Barton Lodge. But I confess that I don't know the other two. I only know that if you can get something in Barton Lodge for $700 then I'll be looking there myself tomorrow! It's close to a lot of great places including stores, theaters, hiking trails, and South Austin funk.

Archstone is at the counter of loop 1 and William cannon. Waters park is further out 290 so you would be dealing with the Y at oak hill traffic.

Emmie -- Today I paid a quick visit to the Cool locators, had a visit with the owner Jim, said I had referred you but wasn't sure when you were there or anything else.... anyway, a woman named Jessica instantly knew where to take me, to Barton's Mill. Did you see that complex? I had almost rented there before but this time it's a better spot and I'm more desperate and broke. I was surprised by the price, only $540, but then again I'm only getting 400 sq. ft. Oh well, it will save me money on furniture since there isn't room for any!

Did you choose a place yet?

I lived at Timber Creek apartments for 3-years and loved it there. It's off S. 1st Street near the S. 1st & Barton Springs Rd. intersection. The rates are reasonable and you're walking/biking distance to just about EVERYTHING. I would walk to town lake every day and the 6th. St. area downtown was about a 15-20 minute walk. I really miss living in that area

Have you checked lately? I've been priced out of EVERYTHING in that area. A year ago I could have afforded it. Prices are zooming up fast anywhere within walking distance of downtown, Soco, or the west side retail districts. Fortunately there are plenty of junky places that are just outside the inner circle that are affordable and will improve as more people are forced out of the center and start fixing up the places that used to be considered dangerous and ugly. Well, they're still ugly. Maybe even a bit dangerous. Life's an adventure, Austin's expensive, whatcha gonna do....

The problem with apartments in the fall is most are 100% full. Also 400sqft is great if you dont like walls (: Think of it as living in a walk in closet with a sink and a toilet. For that amount of money you should look on craigs list and find someone that needs a roommate in a house. Their are so many people that need help on their mortgage for what ever reason so rates are lower less than $500 if you look around.

Also those apartment locator's have a very hard job so be respectful to them. Not long ago apartments started to require each locator's to fill out a w9 and a contractor license. This doesn't sound bad but locator's today sometimes dont get payed for month's on end because of the paper work needed. So please understand their job is harder than it looks and they will never have a steady pay check to go home with. Find a good locator's and stick with him/her they need the money and repeat business.

I sale residential homes and did one apartment in june this year. I got paided in oct and almost had to fire up my lawyer.

I'm extremely respectful to them, as I am to anyone who has to earn a living on straight commission and anyone who is just a decent human being.

The 400 sq. ft. for $540 is better alone for me than having to share a place. I've wasted enormous amounts of time on craigslist in the last few days, writing to lots of people with share rentals, haven't heard back from any and most didn't sound like they were right for me anyway. Roommates are great if you get the right ones, but I'll settle for my glorified motel room and solitude cuz it's walking distance to lots of great places and I'll have plenty of neighbors to meet.

I appreciate your comments about the locators. Their services are invaluable and save tons of time for people in cities like Austin where you could easily spend an entire month looking at all the apartment choices. My locator took me straight to the one I wanted this time, it was amazing!
