Actually, when I think about it...it makes me mad that we have to guard ourselves against this crap in our own home. We pay to have a phone line but how do you control the calls?
That is why I cancelled my home phone line and use only my cell phone now. Most of the calls I got on the land line were solicitations. At&t allowed me to block 15 numbers on thier website and the home system I bought allowed me to block another 20 and they were both full. So I cancelled the service. If the telephone industry wants to keep their customers they need to solve this problem.

My cell phone allows me to block an unlimited number of callers, I have had a few but its much less of a problem than the land line was.

My VOIP phone (Ooma) does the same thing. Unlimited call blocking, plus they have "community blacklists" that aggregate repeated subscriber blocks. Finally, they use an external service that does the same thing.

You only get through once with me, if then -- then, on the list where you get continuous rings. Unrecognized call with no message, on the list as well.

We killed our home line too. It's been the greatest thing in the world not hearing it ring every day/evening, most of which was junk calls.

Same goes for the "Texas State Troopers Association".....they give a very small percentage of what they collect to the actual troopers' causes, and keep the rest for their use. When they call me, I tell them that my brother is a Texas DPS trooper and that I donate to the DPSOA (DPS Officers Association, which IS legitimate and the official DPS troopers association). They at first are argumentative with me, then end up hanging up when they realize I know what I'm talking about. They do not like hearing that I am closely related to a trooper!!

If you have a VOIP phone (like one from your internet provider), you can sign up for Nomorobo. It's free. What they do is compare your incoming calls against their list of known spam callers, then either give them a continuous ring or send them straight to voice mail.
