San Antonio's IT industry has grown to a 15 billion dollar generator and has eclipsed S.A's toursim sector, which is centered around cyber security, Austin's IT industry generates about 20 billion.

Where's your source on that?

As I linked, the Feds aren't seeing such growth.

Uh, that's an old story.

All we know from that is that IT/cybersecurity was 10 Billion at one point. We don't know if it actually made it to 15 Billion. How much federal budget sequestration hurt it. Or how much Austin grew in the meantime.

"In San Antonio alone, the economic impact of IT and cyber security is estimated at $10 billion, a figure expected to reach $15 billion by 2015. "

Honestly, 50% growth in 3 years seems just slightly overoptimistic.

True, but the only difference is that we are referring to projections from different sources. The link that was posted about San Antonio hotel occupancy rate is not completely accurate stating that S.A. mostly depends on its tourism sector, tourism is an essential part of S.A's economy, an industry that locally ranks 5th. Nonetheless, what is important here is that the region is growing with both metros experiencing growth.

The original link wasn't a projection, it was measuring the performance in Q2 2015, the past.

It didn't say "mostly depends", it said "heavily dependent". Which is accurate.

There is a likeness between " mostly dependent" and "heavily dependent." The writer probably wasn't aware of San Antonio industries and that tourisim isn't San Antonio's main economic driver. Not that tourism isn't important to San Antonio, just that many overlook how diverse S.A's economy really is.

One thing we DO know is you can't "center around" something. Good way to flunk a freshman comp paper.

Eventually San Antonio is going to serve Austin like Oakland does to SF. It'll be a cheaper place to live for people working in Austin and don't mind the commute.
