Opie's BBQ on Highway 71 in Spicewood, big roadhouse painted light gray. Good food, highly rated in Texas Monthly.

A few years back i saw a special on the food channel i think about the 10 best BBQ joints etc. One of them was in texas (well there was more than one of course) but i can't remember what it was called.

I'm going to describe it to the best of my memory and if anyone can identify it i would be most obliged.

They showed alot of aerial views of it and it was almost like a big long tin shed type building with a metal roof. I think the roof had lettering on it. The seating was all family style picnic tables inside and i think it was along a highway as if memory serves it originally started as a truck stop.

Does that ring any bells to anyone?
It was Kreuz , I remember that episode.

I guess it might be my memory might be crap but i swear the building had a silver metal roof and that it had open air sides. I remember them showing an aerial view of the area and it was right off a road and it had a big huge gravel parking lot.

I'm almost positive the episode was 'top 10 best bbq joints' or something to that effect.

Worst case scenario is i just got a list of other awesome places to try.

Food Network had a Five Best BBQ episode, and Killen's was in the list. They have a building that looks like it might be what you're talking about.

And Opie's (yum!) fits, too.

... LOVE Opie's! ... Out here in La-La-Land (Silly-con Valley) the local BBQ outfit of any decency is "Armadillo Willy's" ... The owner of which did a "tour of Texas" a few years back. I remember extolling the virtues of Opie's BBQ (and those beans! ) to him, at the time.

Whenever we're visiting the Family, and go West on Highway 71, we make it a point to "time" our Lunch time for Opie's. Never been disappointed, and the kids love it, too!
... their building might be what you're looking for, but (so far as I recall) the sides are not open to the air.

Not sure, but the best BBQ in the Austin area is Opie's west of town on highway 71. They have tables like that but I'm not sure about the roof.
