Any recommendations on finding short term furnished living? I've already looked through airbnb and found some options- but are there other good dependable search engines? Don't want to risk craigslist!

How many months are you going to stay? I know there is one fully furnished two bedroom condo unit available next week from my friend at RR620 and Mansfield Dam.

Looking to stay 3 months starting in January. We'd prefer to be more south, closer to Circle C to make sure we like the area since that's where we are planning on buying a home.

OK. It might not work out in this case.

Realtor.com has rental listings. Not usually for only three months. But it's worth a look.

Try https://www.airbnb.com Many properties have not just daily rates but weekly and monthly. I have not checked it out for Austin but have found some decent deals in other areas.

Agreed. January has no high demand events in Austin (that I can think of) so many of the STRs (Short Term Rentals) owners are happy to do a Monthly. They won't during ACL, F1, SxSW because those are high demand times, but January you should be able to find something.

That said, we've had buyers do that, then take longer to find a home, then get kicked out of the STR because of prior bookings, so you need to talk with the owner and kow the options to extend. But you generally can't "tie up" a place for free, you have to commit even if you end up not needing it the entire time.

The problem with Airbnb is they will charge you a 12% booking fee on top of your rent. You should check out HomeAway.com (which is HQ in Austin) and VRBO.com. They are the leaders in vacation rentals. I stayed in a furnished vacation rental, basically a 2 bedroom apartment, I found on HomeAway during my 8 week remodel. I got a cheaper monthly rate vs the nightly rate on the site. Good Luck!
