I move here in January and now we've had two periods (spring, and again now) where this area is getting record rainfall? I must have brought it with me.

Don't feel bad...we got here in June '08, just in time for FIVE years of record drought and heat.

A one hundred year event can happen every year. A one hundred year storm event in 1913 can happen again in 2013. A hundred year storm event in 1914 can happen again in 2014. A hundred year storm event in 1915 can happen again in 2015...

Yeah, word play...

Yeah, I don't know about that; I have a hard time getting used to seeing news photos of cars buried in water up to their windows, especially when the news stories are from right here at home.

Flash flooding is pretty common, really. More people (and more development) make it seem more dramatic than it used to.

This right here. Especially the development upstream from areas that never ever flooded before that are flooding regularly now.

I remember that one year, not too long ago, The Natural Gardener was flooded because a development uphill from them had been put in - lots of parking lot and other impermeable area that resulted in run-off rather than soaking into what was once open land. The more we develop, the more impact our normal flooding will have.
