nw austin feeding into laurel mountain, canyon vista, westwood.

laurel mountain is around 30% indian.

Typical class

part of the chess club

lego team

robotics team

laurel mountain feeder areas are getting pricey so spicewood and cathy caraway also have significant #s too.

You can go to the AISD web site and look at the ethnic breakdown by individual schools. Whatever portion is listed as 'Asian' is generally a good representation of Indian.

For example, David Elementary is 13.4% Asian, Summit Elementary is 22.6%, and Doss Elementary is 10%.

I'm going to guess Pearson Place is an even higher representation...just a guess; but worth checking out.

Yes. Elsa England Elementary is 39% Asian, mostly South Asian.

I am wondering if the indian requirement is mandatory?

This exact question comes up (once every 2 weeks) for advice. I will leave it there.

it isnt mandatory, but as an asian kid growing up around only white people it does make a difference to be around at least some kids that look like you and share the culture.

I wanted to make sure my kid had enough exposure to asians and asian culture.

Here are some examples:

My daughter is learning chinese, it is great that many of the other kids also know chinese. It is easy to see the normalcy of something when you see others going though it too.

My daughter brings dumplings and other chinese leftovers for lunch. It is great that enough people know what it is that they dont say eeew yuck. White kids tend to not bring leftovers for lunch at all

Eventually my children will date, it is good to have many other kids that look like them to make it easier to date. For the girls it isnt a big deal, for the boys it is more of a challenge. I will leave it there.

Huh?

This is a bit odd, and having helped in the cafeteria lunch room off and on, I can't say that I have ever noticed a skin-color correlation regarding whether a lunch was left-overs or not. Honestly, I haven't noticed than any kids cared. Some kids do bring leftovers, if my memory serves me correctly, lots bring 'first-pass' lunches (or I assume they are), and a lot buy lunches. Kids can't easily heat up their food, so I suspect that limits a lot of leftovers.

Now I am going to have to visually survey the kids next time to see if this is bunk .
