Hi!
We are considering a move to Austin from CA this summer. We would love to be steered toward an area that is family friendly with good schools (kids ages 14, 10, 8), neighborhood feel with larger lots (would love at least 1/2 acre), safe and where we can find a house under 300k. Is this even possible anymore in the Austin area? Suburbs ok. We just don't know where to start.

Thanks!!!

Thank you for inquiring, but you will need to supply more information in order for anyone to reply. Austin is a big place, with many areas, schools, etc. Where will you be working? What kind of community do you want? Do you need to be close to downtown? Things like that can help the folks on here know how to answer.

Finding a home on a half acre with decent schools for less than $300k is a tall order. Close to impossible frankly.

Many of the same challenges as your search in the Research Triangle area, even with the reduced lot size. It WILL be easier to find the less wooded lots here in cenTex vs RTA...most subdivisions built in the last ten years won't have significant tree coverage. Tough order.

I'd recommend my neighborhood in RRE - large lots (.4-1 acre), wooded, good schools, "Mayberryesque". Nothing below $300k, however. Definitely not now. Brushy Creek/Round Rock West area in RRW that zones to McNeil has some nice stock at that price range, as does Cat Hollow. I think maybe Stone Canyon/Forest Bluff (?) too. I think they have larger lots (more than .25 ac) and zone to excellent schools. If you're ok with an older house (which I am), then I say give those areas a look!

There is this button up top called "Search" which has many of these same questions that are asked over and over again... answered.

Please read the OP's post in its entirety before correcting mine. S/he said "Austin area" (which is Austin and its outskirts) and "suburbs ok". If someone says that, it's not far fetched to recommend something that is in the Austin area and Round Rock is in the Austin area.

The OP also stated $300K or less and you told them all about your neighborhood then told them there wasn't anything in their budget.
