I have read of this happening in other countries..kidnapping the family's kids for ransom. Sad that this is now occurring in the US.

I read the mastermind was a cousin of the kid's step dad... kind of comforting. It's not the same as the random kidnapping of a high profile person purely for ransom, as you'd find in Mexico and other places.

Also they arrested all five persons they believe were involved. Neighbor tips led to police to at least some of them. All good things.

The good thing is that it didn't work. I think a big advantage, no matter what your personal opinion of the police, is that the police are for the most part competent and not corrupted by organized crime, especially compared to many other countries. Also, the suspects can be facing life in prison.
