Question Public vs. Private schools

I am looking for schools for my two kids. Any recommendation or opinion on private or public schools? We live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which the public school is highly rated. However, we chose the private school because my kids benefit more from the small classroom setting when they were young. They are in the elementary school now and I am looking for school for them. Any one has idea how the public school in Austin? Which area has better high school? Which private school is good one?

Schools come up a lot on this forum. You could do a search and find the answers to your questions.

I think Austin and surrounding areas have good schools. You just have to figure out what your price range is, and what part of town you want to live in... EANES is the best school district supposedly, but Austin, Round Round, Dripping Springs, Lake Travis and Leander all have good schools too.

I've heard good things about Regents, St. Andrews, and St. Stephens

Eanes and Leander ISD's are great. No need for Private school IMO

We have one in private school and the other in public school at Westlake High.

I personally felt after 8 years in a small (1 class per grade) private school that our oldest needed to be in public high school. Will probably do the same for the next one, but it also depends on where the kid is emotionally and socially. Our first was ready to move into a public environment and is doing very well.

The best thing to do, aside from gather opinions on forums and such, is to visit the schools in person and form your own opinions.

Austin Waldorf School. We chose it because we agree with the pedagogical philosophies of matching the curriculum with the natural development of a child.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the forum. BTW, where is Eanes? Which neighborhood is that? How about the house price? Why is it the best?

Eanes is centered on the city of Westlake located in the close=in SW Austin area. the actual HS is located just off of Hwy 360 between 2244 and MoPac. Eanes is a very pricey school district. I would suspect that the typical house in the district goes for 400k plus, but I am sure there are some more affordable exceptions.

Why is it the best? Generally speaking, more money and all that that brings - facilities, more stable families, good teachers, etc.

I personally have had really good experiences with St. Andrew's (1-12), and have heard glowing reviews about St. Stephen's (6-12) and St. Michael's (9-12). I am substitute teaching this spring while I bring my Texas licensures up to date (apparently 2 Master's in Education degrees and 9 years of teaching experience still don't grant me Texas certification!) and have been doing a lot at St. Andrew's lower school.

My own children are in Round Rock ISD, and I'm subbing in the district right now, and I'm very impressed with them. I worked for a short time last year in Leander ISD as a counselor, and was not as impressed/happy as with Round Rock.
