Stucco is not typical of Austin homes. As they say..when in Rome....

I second that. It may be typical in California, but not too much here. You see more stucco in South Texas and along the coast on some homes.

Ah! We refuse to buy a stucco home here. I've seen a few, and the people listing it call it "California stucco". Brick and stone for us!

Brick + hail = no problems

Stucco + hail = MAJOR problems

Siding + hail = MAJOR problems

Stone + hail = no problems

I'm with you. Not a fan of stucco, and I HATE siding.

The old siding (wood based) needed a lot more maintenance and was more at risk for rot or termites. The traditional stucco had issues with moisture due to humidity, rain, and temperature swings. I suspect all these issues have been worked out with some of the synthetic materials, but it just isn't common.

Also, brick and stone are very easy to get around here .

With some of the extreme weather we have here (heat, wind/storms, hail) you want a home that is stone or brick. Anything not 3.5-4 sides masonry (brick or stone) is less desirable, and will effect your resale, and general property & neighborhood value.

I absolutely LOVE the stone and brick. Growing up in California, stone and brick seemed like the materials that only really wealthy people could afford.

Siding can be awful. In Seattle our home's siding began to delaminate and it cost $25K to repair it. There was a lawsuit against the manufacturer but by the time our siding needed repair, the money had been exhausted from the fund established for homeowners with defective siding.

LP siding! I remember asking that question constantly when we were looking for homes in Seattle... I totally embrace the brick, and am glad to be away from costly siding that requires maintenance & upkeep!
