The Keep Austin Weird House (Jefferson: for sale, loft, houses)

My wife noticed the other day that the house off mopac with the large letters proclaiming 'keep Austin weird' has taken the letters down. Hopefully they're just getting a new coat of paint. Does anyone know the story?

I've always wondered about that house. Didn't notice the words were missing this morning. I would find any history on this house or resident's would be interesting! Anyone?

There was an article in the statesman several months ago and the owner is an artis/architect or some such "artsy" occupation. Seems as though I noticed the letters being down a few weeks ago, too. Don't remember the details of the article but maybe it is archived. It would have been in the lifestyles section ithink...

Well I spent a little time googling and found my own answer. The owner has moved to a loft on congress (the two story was getting hard on her knees.) Apparently the house is for sale and the weirdness wasn't selling. So the letters are down and it's getting a fresh coat of more subdued paint.

There are plenty of Austin Weird houses.. maybe someone should start a thread! I know there is one near Jefferson/29th that is wildly painted, and has a painted lawn! It's like a red and green checkerboard. Anyone see that one?
